ACT-based coaching

ACT-based coaching proposes, instead of fighting a difficult emotion, making room for it and moving in the direction of one's values. It comes from Steven Hayes's Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Its basic idea is this: waiting for anxiety to pass often postpones life; whereas you can also walk toward what you value while carrying the anxiety with you. The coach clarifies which value the client is pursuing, then turns toward small steps in harmony with that value. Accepting what cannot be controlled frees energy for what can be.
