What is life satisfaction?

The Life Satisfaction Mirror is a short self-assessment of how satisfying you find your life as a whole, by your own standards. It draws on the life-satisfaction framework and yields a single life-satisfaction score from five items.

Life satisfaction differs from momentary happiness. Happiness comes and goes; life satisfaction is the calm, cognitive answer to “all things considered, how is my life going?” That is why it can be high even on a bad day, or low even on a pleasant one.

How to read the score

The total score ranges from 5 to 35. A high score means you find your life satisfying by your own standards; a low score means one or a few areas don’t satisfy you. This is a mirror, not a grade: its aim is not to judge you but to show you where to look.

FAQ

Is a low score bad?
No. A low score only shows that some areas don’t satisfy you right now; that can change. To see which area is lacking, you can try the Life Wheel.
