The Career Compass is the digital form of the Holland (RIASEC) personality inventory widely used in career psychology. RIASEC groups a person’s fit for work environments into six types: Realistic (R), Investigative (I), Artistic (A), Social (S), Enterprising (E) and Conventional (C). In Cevvela’s tool you say whether you would enjoy each short activity, are neutral, or would not; these answers determine the dominant two or three types and give you a profile code, for example Enterprising-Social. The result is not a static report; it recommends books closest to your profile straight from the Cevvela library and, if you wish, points you to a coach.
What is the Career Compass?
The Career Compass is a self-assessment tool based on the RIASEC theory that psychologist John L. Holland developed in the 1950s. According to Holland, most people lean toward a few of six interest types and become more productive and more satisfied when they work in an environment that fits their type.
Unlike popular splits such as left brain versus right brain, RIASEC is a long-standing, research-backed model in career psychology. Cevvela brings this model down to plain language and a flow of a few minutes.
The six types: RIASEC
Realistic (R) likes concrete results and hands-on work, Investigative (I) likes analysis and understanding, Artistic (A) likes originality and expression. Social (S) leans toward developing people, Enterprising (E) toward persuading and leading, and Conventional (C) toward building order and structure.
No one is a single type. That is why the result is not one letter but a combination of the dominant two or three types. An Enterprising-Social profile describes someone who manages people but does so through relationship; an Investigative-Enterprising profile describes a visionary strategist.
How it works
You are shown short activities; for each one you say you’d enjoy it, you’re neutral, or you wouldn’t. Your “enjoy” answers are tallied across the six types; the areas you enjoy most set your dominant profile and your profile code. There are no right or wrong answers.
On the result screen you see a short description of your profile and the highest Cevvela-rated books from the areas closest to it. So the result does not stay a label; it turns into a shelf you can read right away.
Who it is for
The Career Compass is a good starting point for professionals who want to clarify the path that fits their nature, for people at the edge of a transition, and for managers who want to know their team better. For students it also works as a plain compass when choosing a field or profession.
The Cevvela difference
Most Holland tests end with a code. At Cevvela the code is a beginning. The categories that fit your profile are matched directly to books in the library, so the first books you read are chosen for your profile. If you wish, you can turn this into a concrete step by talking with a coach.
Your answers are processed only in your browser; your profile is not stored as a label. If you also want to see the overall balance of your life, the Life Wheel shows it across eight areas.

Frequently asked questions about the Career Compass
- Are the Career Compass and the Holland test the same?
- Yes. The Career Compass is Cevvela’s name for Holland’s RIASEC inventory. It presents the model in modern language and a flow of a few minutes; in the end you still get a profile code based on the six types (RIASEC).
- How many questions, how long does it take?
- There are 48 short activities and you answer each with one of three options (I’d enjoy it / neutral / I wouldn’t). The whole thing takes a few minutes. You can go back and change an answer at any time.
- Why does the result have two or three letters?
- Because no one is a single type, the Holland code combines the dominant types. Cevvela takes the highest type and adds the other dominant types close to it, giving your profile as, for example, Enterprising-Social.
- How are the book recommendations chosen?
- Each type is matched to certain book categories in the library. Your profile pulls books from those categories, ranked by Cevvela score; if the pool is thin in one area, it is filled from secondary categories. So the books are not random but the closest to your profile.
- Can I share my result?
- Yes. With “Share result” on the result screen you can share your profile with ready-made text. Your answers are processed only in your browser and are not shared with anyone unless you share them.
