Station (maqām)

In Sufism, a station is a lasting spiritual rank attained through effort and discipline. Whereas a state comes and goes, a station settles and remains. Stations such as patience or trust are the fruit of sustained effort, not of a single moment. The concept holds the difference between a passing experience and an earned maturity.
