In Sufism, the heart is the organ of spiritual perception, mediating between the ego and the spirit. Just as the physical heart carries blood to the body, the spiritual heart carries a kind of vision to the self. The heart is described as a center that is constantly turned, shifting from state to state. Sufism holds that true seeing comes from the heart more than from the intellect.
