Situational leadership

Situational leadership is a model that says there is no single right form of leadership, and that the best approach changes according to the situation and the person. According to this framework, developed by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard, the leader is now more directive, now more supportive, according to the team member's competence and willingness for that task. A novice needs a clear direction, while for an experienced person opening room is more effective. Applying the same style to everyone often hinders someone's growth. In coaching, this helps a leader notice whether they are stuck in a single mould.
