The Socratic method

The Socratic method is knowledge being brought to light not by telling but by the question. Socrates does not teach, he asks; he pushes the other person to think by confronting them with their own contradictions. It is the oldest philosophical root of coaching. The assumption "the answer is within the person" comes from here. The coach is not one who gives a lesson but one who asks the right question.
