Congruence is the coach's outward expression being the same as what is within them. Rogers names it, together with empathy, as one of the fundamental conditions of the relationship. A warmth that is not genuine is sensed by the client and weakens trust. The coach does not wear a mask; they are themselves. A congruent coach is a trustworthy coach.
