Goal ownership

Goal ownership is the mentee setting their own direction themselves. The mentor can point the way, but the goal must belong to the mentee; a borrowed goal rarely holds. When the mentee clarifies what they want to achieve, the mentoring also takes on meaning in that direction. This ownership keeps the compass of the process in the mentee's own hand. A mentee who owns their goal also strives harder to reach it.
