Emotional reasoning
Emotional reasoning is concluding that something is real because one feels it. The sentence 'I feel inadequate, so I must be inadequate' is the essence of this pattern; the emotion is put in the place of evidence. Yet feelings, though real, do not always reflect reality; fear can exaggerate danger, anxiety can make a non-existent problem seem real. Emotion is important data, but on its own it is not a verdict. The coach, without dismissing the client's emotion, helps them tell it apart from the fact.
