Limiting beliefs
Limiting beliefs are assumptions a person takes as true but that constrain them. Sentences such as "I am not a math person" or "asking for help is weakness" are often assumptions carried without being tested, narrowing one's room to move. A person takes these beliefs for reality, whereas they are usually generalizations drawn from an old experience. The coach does not judge these beliefs, but tests them gently: "Is this really true, or are you assuming it to be so?" A belief made visible begins to loosen at the very place it is first questioned.
