Meaning-makingmeaning-making
Meaning-making is the process of how a person interprets what happens to them and what meaning they give it. It is the common core of adult development theories, because two people can live the same event and build wholly different meanings. What determines us is often not the event itself but the meaning we attach to it. Coaching touches this process directly: it helps the client notice through what frame they make sense of an experience and, if needed, reconstruct it. When the meaning changes, the relationship with the event often changes too.
