Discounting the positive
Discounting the positive is invalidating something good by saying "but that does not count." When a person achieves a success, they dim it by saying "it was luck" or "it was easy anyway"; the positive experience is not acknowledged. This pattern prevents the person from gathering evidence of their own strength and keeps the negative belief intact. A mind that discounts the good constantly confirms the bad. The coach helps the client notice this constant habit of invalidation and truly acknowledge their gains.
