Anchoring bias
Anchoring bias is a person becoming overly attached to the first piece of information they receive and building their later judgments around it. The research of Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman clearly showed this tendency; when making an estimate, people are influenced by the first number given to them, even if it is irrelevant. A first impression, a first price, or a first heard opinion quietly shapes what comes after. In coaching, this helps the client notice how attached they remain to their first impression of a matter. Seeing the anchor is the first condition of being able to detach from it.
