Burnoutburnout
Burnout is the emptying of a person's physical and emotional resources as a result of prolonged and intense stress. Psychologist Christina Maslach defines it along three dimensions: a deep exhaustion, an emotional distancing from work and from people, and a feeling of inadequacy. Burnout does not form in a day; it is often the result of a person continually overstepping their limits and postponing looking after themselves. This is not a weakness of character but a natural consequence of an unsustainable load. The coach helps the client notice these signs early, review their limits, and open space for themselves; and when clinical support is needed, they make an appropriate referral.
