Best practices

Best practices are methods that have been tried in a field and seen to work. By passing on these methods — drawn from their own experience and from the field's accumulated knowledge — the mentor saves the mentee time. Still, best practices should be used not blindly but adapted to the mentee's context; what works in one place may not work in another. The mentor offers these methods not as a recipe but as a starting point. A tried road is often safer than starting from scratch.
