Academic mentoring is guidance carried out in the field of learning and research. It is often formed between an experienced academic and a student or young researcher; the mentor passes on not only knowledge but also a way of doing research and the unwritten rules of the field. This relationship is often decisive in a student's development. Academic mentoring is the transmission of a craft alongside knowledge. A good academic mentor makes room for the student to find their own voice.
