Secure base

A secure base is a solid ground a person can return to when they are struggling. In attachment theory, this concept describes a safe presence a child can come back to as they set out to explore the world; when that secure base is there, the child explores more boldly. This ground matters not only in childhood but in adulthood too; a safe relationship gives a person the courage needed to take risks. A secure base is both a support and a springboard. A solid place to return to makes it easier to go forward.
