Power balance

Power balance is the healthy management of the difference in seniority between mentor and mentee. Mentoring carries an asymmetry by nature; the mentor is often the more experienced and better-positioned side. This difference must not turn into a pressure that cows the mentee but should serve their development. A good mentor uses their power not over the mentee but for their benefit. In a balanced relationship, the mentee can speak without silencing their own voice.
