Managing expectations

Managing expectations is clearly clarifying roles and expectations at the start of the relationship. When mentor and mentee do not agree from the outset on what will and will not be provided, disappointment becomes inevitable later on. An open conversation prevents silent resentments of the kind 'but I was expecting this'. Managing expectations places the relationship on a realistic footing. An expectation spoken at the start is better than a resentment felt later.
