The habit loop
The habit loop says that every habit is a circuit made of three parts: cue, routine, and reward. Charles Duhigg popularized this loop in his book The Power of Habit. A cue triggers the behavior, the routine is carried out, and the reward that follows teaches the brain to repeat the loop. To change a habit, it is often enough to keep the cue and the reward and change only the routine in between. A loop that is seen is a loop that can be redesigned.
