Dual relationship risk

Dual relationship risk is the danger that arises when the mentoring role gets mixed up with another relationship. When the mentor is at the same time the mentee's manager, business partner, or close friend, the roles can blur, and this can pave the way for conflicts of interest. Recognizing this risk and keeping the roles as separate as possible protects the honesty of the relationship. Blurred roles often damage the clarity and trust of the relationship. A clearly defined role protects the relationship from ambiguity.
