Mentoring and coaching
The basic difference between mentoring and coaching is the distinction between transmitting and drawing out. The mentor shares their own experience and knowledge, shows the way, and gives advice when needed; the coach makes room for the person to draw the answer out of themselves and usually does not give direct advice. The mentor is often someone more experienced from the same field; the coach need not be a subject expert, their real expertise being in the process. Both are valuable and often complement each other. Mentoring moves you forward with the light of experience, coaching with the person's own awareness.
