Catastrophizing
Catastrophizing is seeing the worst possible outcome as both certain and unbearable. When a person makes a small mistake, they imagine a chain of ruin and live that scenario as if it were real. The mind constantly fills the question 'what if?' with the darkest answer. Yet the worst scenario both rarely comes to pass and, even if it does, is often more bearable than the person imagines. The coach helps the client weigh, with a more realistic eye, the likelihood of the outcome they fear and how truly unbearable it would be.
