State-dependent memory

State-dependent memory is the recall of a piece of information or a memory as tied to a particular bodily or emotional state. When we re-enter an emotion or a state, the memories associated with that state can come back more easily. This explains why a particular mood calls up similar memories. State-dependent memory shows that remembering is tied not only to content but to the state one is in. Entering a state often awakens the memories bound to it.
