Self-compassion
Self-compassion is a person, in a moment of difficulty, approaching themselves with the kindness they would show to someone they love. The research of psychologist Kristin Neff defines this concept through three elements: treating oneself kindly, remembering that everyone struggles, and seeing one's pain without either exaggerating or suppressing it. Contrary to a common misconception, self-compassion leads not to laziness but to a firmer motivation; for a person who treats themselves ruthlessly often freezes out of fear. The coach helps the client soften the voice of their inner critic and approach themselves in a more compassionate tone. A person who is kind to themselves starts again more easily after a mistake.
