Components of emotional intelligence
The components of emotional intelligence are the sub-skills of being able to work competently with both one's own emotions and those of others. In his book Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman gathers these into four main areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. The first two concern the person themselves, the last two concern others. According to Goleman, these skills are not fixed from birth but qualities that can be developed. Coaching touches this area directly; it helps the client manage both their own inner world and their relationships more competently.
