Referral is the coach directing a client to a suitable professional when the client's need exceeds the scope of coaching. If what a client is going through requires clinical support, therapy, or medical help, the coach must recognize this and refer them honestly. This is not a failure or an abandonment but an ethical responsibility that attends to the client's real benefit. Trying to answer every need on one's own often harms the client. By knowing their limits and referring at the right time, the coach helps the client find the most fitting support.
