The psoas muscle

The psoas muscle is a powerful muscle deep within the body that connects the trunk to the legs. Central to posture and movement, this muscle is also associated with stress and fear responses; according to some somatic approaches, the psoas can hold tension and survival responses. The relaxing of this deep muscle is seen as related to a general relaxation in the body. The psoas holds a central place both in the body's movement and in the holding of tension. This deep muscle is often a mirror of the load the body carries.
