The physiological sigh
The physiological sigh is a natural way of breathing made of two short inhales in a row followed by a long exhale. The body often gives this breath spontaneously; a sigh is in fact a natural example of this pattern. This breath can provide quick relief by reopening the air sacs in the lungs and balancing carbon dioxide. Done consciously, it can calm the nervous system in a short time. Two inhales and a long exhale often bring an immediate lightening.
