Box breathingbox breathing
Box breathing is a way of breathing in which the phases of inhale, hold, exhale, and hold again are done for equal durations. Like the four equal sides of a square, the four phases of this breath are kept the same length; each phase might last four seconds, for example. This regular structure gathers attention and gives the nervous system a balance. Box breathing is used especially to steady the mind in intense moments. This equal-phased rhythm offers the body a predictable order.
