The noetic dimension

Viktor Frankl proposes that in a human being there is, above the bodily and the psychological, a level that opens onto meaning and freedom, and he calls it the noetic dimension. If cognitive psychology brought the mind back into psychology, Frankl calls the spirit back into personality theory. This level makes it possible for a person to take distance from their own situation. The noetic dimension is the side that makes a human being irreducible to their conditions.
