Internal listening

Internal listening is the first level, at which attention is not on the client but on the coach's own inner voice. In Co-Active coaching, Henry and Karen Kimsey-House call this Level 1: while listening to the client, the coach in fact follows their own interpretations, their next question, or the thought 'what would I do?'. This level is normal in everyday conversation, but insufficient in coaching, because the center shifts to the coach. The client often senses this disconnection. The coach's first task is to notice this inner noise and carry attention outward.
