Body memorybody memory

Body memory is the holding of lived experiences as traces in the body. Some experiences lodge in the body not as a narrative but as a tension or a posture; the body can carry what the mind does not remember. This concept explains why somatic work concerns itself not only with talking but with the body too. Body memory shows how the past echoes in today's bodily reactions. These traces held in the body often become visible only through a bodily awareness.
