The sponsorship function

The sponsorship function is the mentor giving the mentee visibility. This means speaking the mentee's name in the right places, introducing them to important people, and opening the door of opportunities to them. Sponsorship is a bridge that lets the mentee's talent be seen; often talent alone is not enough, and that talent needs to come before the right eyes. Using their own reputation, the mentor offers the mentee this visibility. A talent that goes unseen can rarely turn into opportunity.
