The protection function

The protection function is the mentor shielding the mentee from risks and harmful situations they are not yet ready for. This includes keeping the mentee away from an early danger or standing in front of a difficulty on their behalf. Protection is a valuable function, but it must be in the right measure; overprotection prevents the mentee from living their own experience. The mentor knows when to shield the mentee and when to leave them to their own path. Good protection opens a safe space for the mentee without weakening them.
