Primitive reflexes

Primitive reflexes are the innate, automatic movement responses seen in early infancy. An infant grasping when its palm is touched, or reacting to a sudden movement by opening its arms, is among these reflexes; they serve survival and development. In normal development these reflexes give way over time to more mature movements. These early responses are among the first building blocks of the nervous system. These innate reflexes are a natural starting point of development.
