Orientingorienting
Orienting is attention making a safe contact with the environment. Using the head and eyes, a person notices the space they are in; this answers, for the nervous system, the question 'where am I right now and am I safe?'. Orienting can bring a person from the triggering of the past into the present moment. This simple movement helps the body reassess safety. Turning toward the environment is often a way of returning to the present.
