Differentiating sensations
Differentiating sensations is breaking bodily experience down into basic qualities such as warmth and pressure. A vague discomfort becomes more defined through this differentiation; instead of 'I feel bad', it becomes possible to say 'there is a tightness in my chest'. This refinement allows a person to approach experience more directly and less overwhelmingly. Differentiating sensations makes bodily experience legible. A sensation that is named is often more easily carried.
