Being a role model

Being a role model is setting an example for the mentee not by telling but by behavior. People often learn more from what they observe than from what they are told; Albert Bandura's social learning theory shows this clearly. The mentor shows, by living it, how they stand before a difficulty and how they meet a mistake; this silent lesson is often the most lasting one. The weight of being a role model lies here too: the mentee watches not only what is said but what is done. A consistent example teaches more than words.
