Alterityalterity

Levinas's concept of alterity says that the Other can never fully open itself to me. To understand a person completely would be to reduce them to my own categories, and this erases their otherness. A healthy relationship rests not on abolishing this distance but on preserving it. The Other is not an extension of me but a being in their own right.
