Self-regulationself-regulation
Self-regulation is a person's capacity to balance their own level of arousal and emotional state. This involves calming a rising tension or returning to aliveness from a collapsed state. Self-regulation is not fully developed from birth; it is often learned first by being balanced together with another, then internalized. This capacity lets a person keep their balance in the face of difficulties. A person who can regulate themselves depends less on outside support.
