Reflecting backreflecting

Reflecting back is showing the client the emotion or the implicit meaning they have expressed. It comes from Carl Rogers's tradition of reflective listening. A sentence such as "your voice trembled a little as you told this" makes visible what goes unnoticed. It is not interpretation but a mirror; the client can look at their own reflection and go further. What is within becomes workable once it is seen outside.
