Initiationinitiation

Initiation is the first phase in which the mentoring relationship is formed. In Kathy Kram's theory of mentoring phases, this is the period when the parties get to know each other and the foundation of the relationship is laid. In this phase expectations form, first trust is built, and the direction of the relationship begins to appear. The beginning often carries excitement and hope. A well-laid foundation determines the soundness of all the phases that follow.
