Boundariesboundaries
Boundaries are the agreements that draw the healthy frame of the coaching relationship. They cover matters such as time, role, and the scope of the relationship; the length of the session, what the coach does and does not do, and where coaching ends and another kind of support begins are made clear from the start. Boundaries are not a distance but, on the contrary, the condition of trust; within a clear frame the client opens up more freely. In relationships where the boundary is vague, confusion of expectation and disappointment often arise. The coach keeps the relationship safe by maintaining boundaries that are both warm and clear.
