Acemoğlu puts an end to the fairy tales of development. If a country is poor, it is not because its people are lazy but because those who built the system deliberately exploit them. Cevvela’s hostility to an order that normalizes injustice is confirmed here by economics. The book tells us how, wherever power and money are concentrated in the hands of a narrow circle, innovation and talent are deliberately crushed. You realize that the cronyism and poverty in your own country are not fate but institutionalized theft. Where there is no rule of law, entrepreneurship is merely paying tribute to the exploiters.
