The flawless world More sketched five hundred years ago is in fact an insult aimed at the rottenness of his own age. Yet in its very perfection, the utopia also conceals a dystopia. This order, in which private life is entirely abolished and everything is transparent and uniform, crushes the gem within a person — that is, their difference. Though it is a critique of an order that normalizes injustice, we also read how absolute equality turns the human soul into a machine.
