London’s novel is not a work of fiction; it is an early warning about that invisible dictatorship descending upon the world. It shows just how bloodthirsty the system can become when its mask slips. Cevvela maintains his distance from a system that normalizes injustice because he knows its true intentions. He explains that capital will not be content with merely making a profit; at a certain point, it will transform into a dictatorship that crushes the spirit of humanity. You shudder as you see how today’s massive technology and finance companies have transformed into modern-day “Iron Fists,” and how what is called democracy is nothing more than a stage for the oligarchy.
