Shelley shatters humanity’s arrogant delusion of playing God. The real monster is not the nameless creature but Victor, who runs from responsibility and cannot love what he has created. Cevvela says that the gem within a person dulls for lack of love. The creature does not begin as evil; what turns it into a monster is society’s prejudice and its creator leaving it utterly alone. You feel how the people you judge by their appearance or status are writhing in their own hell — and that their evil is in fact born of your “exclusion.” Never awaken a power you cannot take responsibility for.
