Dante’s Inferno is not in the next world; it is exactly within us. It shows that to reach the unworked gem within, a person must first descend the nine circles of their own darkness and face their ambitions, betrayals and pride. Cevvela does not judge people, but it does lead them to face themselves; The Divine Comedy likewise performs an autopsy on the soul. You come to understand that what we call sins are in fact murders committed not against God but against one’s own dignity. Purification comes not from rejecting the darkness but from walking through it. Love is a summit earned only after passing through that fire.
